The Cost of Discipleship is not only just a price that we pay with Praying to God and Living by what God has written on our hearts, or taught by Pastors and Teachers, no it has a lot more to do with our own personal life and our Spirit walk with him. The cost is living up to the things God has called us to do, to lay aside our selfish-ambitions. To lay aside our Youthful lusts in the heart, to walk up right as Men and Women of God.
The very First mentioning of Disciples in the Gospels and it comes from Matthew 4:18 Calling to Peter, also known as Simon and His brother Andrew as they were casting nets into the sea, known as fishermen Jesus called them out of that Lifestyle, and Said,” Follow me and I will make you Fishers of men” This was the true way Christ captivated their Hearts, in a mystery giving them a invitation to be like Him. The reason why I use words like captivated is because the verse after Christs was like this 20. “They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” If I was not captivated by such an invitation or calling, in the mysterious way Christ said this I would not simply stop what I am doing and leave to follow Him.
This Goes to show the next verse simply how much of Christs words alone came to call on others hearts, Zebedee and John were simply mending their nets with their Father, and He called unto them and the Immediately stopped and followed, Leaving their own Father.
What is the meaning of Discipleship? They are a member of Christ. 4. A person who is a pupil or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower.
Christ was Inviting Peter and His Brother as well as Zebedee and John to become disciplined, to have control over themselves, and grant them more than they could ever understand. This is quite the same way when we encounter Christ and his teachings for the first time, we are left with a sense we have a lot to learn and in a need for change. Which is why understanding the Beatitudes is something we as Disciples should not only understand but also express and live by.
“When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die”-Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Christ spoke, by opening his mouth and taught them saying,” Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted, blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those are persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blesses are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
“Blessed” What is blessed? What is Christ saying to His Disciples when He says Blessed?
Well it can be stated and understood in many ways; however I believe Christ was Teaching His Disciples the ways to walk in the World representing Holiness and God. He would later show them about themselves being a body and a temple and keeping it Holy. So the meaning blessed in this Context is favored, fortunate, lucky, privileged, enviable, and happy. Christ is saying to His Disciples Your Blessed when you are Poor in Spirit because you are humbled, in knowing you do not have all the answers and you need others for help. You are happy and favored when you admit who you are through your weakness and even strengths through being transparent, you are privileged to share with others you are not hindered by the truth of your characteristics as a Human being but Blessed because You are poor in Spirit. He was sharing also His Divine Wisdom and also His power in the Beatitudes saying “They shall be” or “Theirs is “He was sharing to them His authority right away within the teachings of how to become all He is. When Christ mentioned mourning He literally took that word to heart because He was certainly telling His Disciples what was going to be happening later. Again Christ was painting a picture of Him as well as describing the image of what He was trying to mold them into.
“Blessed” are the meek, “For they shall” inherit the earth. Okay so we have covered Blessed in this contexts so we are going to be Favored, Happy and privileged by being meek. Okay so what is Meek? It is quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive. Other words are used to describe to us this word as well such as yielding, obedient, unprotestingly, unresistant, tame. Again Christ was calling His Disciples to be yielding and obedient. Meekness is also knowing as a fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 “gentleness and self-control” So the Beatitudes was again another for shadowing of His teachings in Galatians “walking in the Spirit”.
“Blessed” are those who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness “for they shall” be filled… So we can say Christ was letting us understand know exactly how to walk in the Spirit as soon as He spoke with His Disciples. Check out What Hunger means, have a strong desire or craving for, or a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat. Now we know The word of God is Food for us, Check this out in
“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” Jeremiah 15:16
Hebrews 5:12-14″For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, which because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.”
1 Peter 2:2 “like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,”
Now we can move on and cover “Righteousness” because Christ is calling to us as His followers to Hunger and Thirst. So righteousness means the quality of being morally right or justifiable. Christs’ motives in His teaching is that He desires us to follow after His word, to eat on it and thirst after it because it makes us Righteous, being that the Word is Holy and Righteous. Hence Who Christ resembled and reflected.
“Blessed” are those who are merciful, “for they shall” obtain Mercy. Have you noticed yet the Power Christ is demonstrating through the teaching he is sharing with us? Every Action we are partaking within the Beatitudes we are being found favored and privileged by receiving what Christ says we will. What is Mercy? It is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. So if we are in a form of power to punish and we forgive we are demonstrating what Christs say Mercy. Thus the exact reflection of Who God is to Us, and Why Christ Demonstrated that very thing when He took on the actions of death for us on the Cross. Powerful Teachings, Christ showed His Disciples that I fill God has Lead me to see for myself therefore able to share with you. Discipleship in itself is happening right now, because the teaching is staying intact from where it is coming from, Christ; Gods Son Chosen to pave the path of Righteousness. Psalms 86:5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Luke 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. God being Love also allows us to see the Fruit of Mercy is rooted in love and kindness. Galatians Chapter 5 “Fruit of the Spirit”
“Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitles to as we are”-Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Blessed” are the pure in heart “for they shall” see God, This teaching from Christ can be wildly expressed in many ways, since we cannot see God face to face in His Glory, However we can see Him through many others ways. I want to use this Scripture here 1 Corinthians 14:1. Pursue Love. Well God Is love, so we are Pursuing God, pressing into His presence.
Now what is Pure, it is not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material! So It safe to say that when we purse a relationship with God, with Love and living in Love or in the Fruit of the Spirit we are to be sure to live with nothing else that would alter the presence of God. Which is the reason why Christ said, “Love thy God with all the heart mind, strength and soul”
We can simply see God in the gifts of the Spirit, by seeing People reflect the Word of God, and by living it we can see Him, so if we are Pursuing Him we will See Him. This is Christ showing us the invisible “visible” Spirit of God around us, such a beautiful teaching. This would also fall into the Galatians teaching under faithfulness. If we are Putting God first, we can say that we are pursuing a faithful life with God based off Christ teaching us the way by what He spoke on the Mount of Olives. True Discipleship is the shadowing and foreshadowing of the one who taught us first. This is Christ.
“Blessed” are the peacemakers “for they shall” be called sons of God. What is a peacemaker? a person who brings about peace, especially by reconciling adversaries. Here are other words that describe who we are trying to be based on Christs teachings; arbitrator, arbiter, mediator, negotiator, conciliator, go-between, intermediary.
This is every bit of what Christ is. He reconciled us from the Adversary Lucifer. He is the Negotiator on our behalf when He speaks to the Father. Again it is everything Christ was, showing us and His Disciple the Image of Who He is and How we will be called Sons of God. He has that Power to claim us if of course we are obedient and faithful to God. Living up right and trying to reconcile others to God is our calling, it is our Job, and we are His Disciples after all right?
He is where everything begins to be quite clear as to what will happen in our lives and what we are going to endure as a Disciples so remember, count the cost. Christ wants you to be on Fire for these teachings, and understanding. It will strengthen your relationship with Him. God will Bless you from these being manifest from you in the world as His Disciples, His Beloved you will encounter persecution.
“Blessed “are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake “for theirs” is the Kingdom of Heaven. We see that our reward that is given to us is not only the Kingdom of God the wonderful peace and indwelling of Gods holy presence within us, no but Literally the Kingdom of Heaven, which we await still. This ensures us when we are reviled and spoken evil against us that we are to be Joyful, we to rejoice. What does Persecution mean? It is Hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. Something that we all can say that is actually happening today in the world. Now what is persecuted mean? Someone who will be treated ill because of their beliefs that cause them to follow and live a certain way that is unsound to persecutor.
Now know that after pursuing God and a relationship that will set you aside and make you holy, you will not only be blessed inwardly but you also you will store up your treasure in heaven based on your living and faith. This is what will separate you, this is what will make you a peacemaker and a pursuer of God with a pure heart, this is what will identify you as a Son of God when you give mercy and your hunger and thirst is aimed at keeping God as your inner reflection. This is what will identify when you submit and obey God and His teachings, as others may over rule you now they will not forever rule over you. When you mourn and or grieve, and yet see or fill grief know that you are blessed with a comforter, the Holy Spirit, our Blanket of understanding and renewal as well as our confirmation. This is who we are the poor in spirit because we realize that we needed something other than ourselves to help us, and save us. That is inner wisdom connected to the poor in spirit beatitude. We are calling out like a Child Depending on help, because we need it and we admit it openly to God. Therefore Hear this The Kingdom of Heaven is ours.
Motivation by God through us: “We took on the invitation, we spoke of our Sins admitting our faults, we mourned and grieved of the wrong and sought for something more, to be obedient, yielding and being gentle so that we would learn and grow from the King that would provide the meal of righteousness by the living word of God, we understood forgiveness and witnessed Mercy, so in our Hands there is only Love and Acceptance to those who want it, because we desire a grander depth within ourselves to shine with a fire like no other, being purified in His Spirit; Hot and blazing that would in enable us to place light between the darkness and give truth to the death, being the peace in the making of chaos, sealed in our Identity within Him who Saves and we bare the marks of Him who paid it all, being persecuted as He was so that Our Kingdom awaits and stands in Truth by God so Rejoice Disciples Rejoice today, tomorrow and forevermore” – Godhead Disciple Ministry
