Welcome to the Four Levels of bearing Spiritual Fruit! We’re so excited you decided to dive deep, get out your shovels and prepare to find jewels along the way! This entire study in organized out of John 15, along with scriptures in reference to certain points brought up. If you haven’t yet please first check out “5 tips for success on how to Abide in me!”-link
Up front we’re going to give you the outline to follow. It’s simple, but in each of them are expansions of what we found:
Level 1- Purging: John 15:2
Level 2- Process John 15:2
Level 3- Proficiency John 15:5, 8
Level 4- Perpetuity John 15:16
Level 1 (Purging) – John 15:2 covers both a purging of us and it launches us into the ability to produce. It establishes us to bring forth more fruit. Let’s look: “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”
In the Greek Purging means simply to clean, what we found though in this relates to every word Christ spoke and how we are regenerated through the washing of his word, which is Him because He is the Word.
Purge: καθαίρω- G2508; to cleanse, of filth impurity, etc.
1. To prune trees and vines from useless shoots
2. metaph. from guilt, to expiate (atone for)
Our main purpose in abiding is to produce, reproducing Christ. The Spirit of the Lord which is out lined in Galatians 5:22-23. The Purging cleanses is from useless thoughts, ideas, actions in our lives that establishes us to produce forth more fruit. This is the replacing carnality method based on reading Romans 8. The purpose of cleansing also is to get rid of guilt, fear; sin or the opposite of the fruit of the spirit; Outlined in Galatians 5:19-21. This is proven by Christ’s very words in the following verse. Verse three, “now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” This brings me to a point here. To have a cleansing, we must first believe in God’s word and love. It is impossible for us to feel renewed in the spirit and believe contrary to God’s divine will. Let’s stick to the goal here, if you have followed up with us through the five tips for success on how to abide in me then you would know your goal. It is in fact the very first tip into achieving this goal. Know what you’re called to do! Jesus would never send out his disciple’s blind, or without understanding. If you have read through the gospel of Jesus Christ, which we highly recommend; then you would know Christ spoke to his disciples many times and then asked them, “do you not know?” “Are you without understanding?”
If we cannot understand we are without guidance and without guidance our fruit will become premature. Have you ever planted a tree? Or maybe invested in a idea and you saw fruit come forth, but after that because of not know how to reproduce; clean up and start again it all fell through. Everyone has been there in their Christian walk. I know I have. I am not ashamed to be who I am. So with this we wanted to give you some pointers within this level to launch you right into the progress of producing more fruit. The harvest is brought forth by much work, but mostly by faith. We walk in faith and if we don’t all that we believe in is for nothing if our faith doesn’t motivate us, likewise for producing the likeness and image of God. “The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit,” Proverbs 12:12. The root of every action must be based on righteousness. Romans 14:17 says, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink: but righteousness, and peace, and joy in Holy Ghost.” When we plant any seed, let it be off Romans 14:17 Proverbs 11:30 says, “the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” The things we plant will be known by its taste in this world. If it doesn’t taste like righteousness, peace and joy then guess what; you won’t reach souls by your fruits. In the due season, when the harvest is ripe for tasting we want to express the very truth so our fruit remains tasteful before man and God. “9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10 If we honor God and His call to produce fruit, which is his likeness then guess what we will have plenty, and we will receive the new wine. This will makes sense to few, but in a moment I will reveal it to everyone who reads this. Psalm 92:12, “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” The Righteous will flourish. Psalms 1:3,“ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” In the seasons of producing the likeness of God we are faced daily to question will we prosper? By faith yes, Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Let our faith drive us, not our thoughts, and ideas, or emotions. Faith alone, should drive us!
Level 2(Process) – John 15:2, “that it may bring forth more fruit” We can see why Jesus wanted the disciples to be clean. It removed the idea that they themselves could produce such character of God without first getting rid of themselves. In other words, we must get over ourselves. We simply see many times Christ stating that we must die to ourselves, and must take up our cross and follow him. Paul says it; Christ spoke it and did it as an example to follow. Let’s look into the word More: G4119 pleion; greater in quantity, the more part, very many or greater in quality, superior, and more excellent. Without being cleansed and given opportunity to make our fruit perfect, God has to challenge us. He allows things to happen. Storms come. We all know this. To bear anything, we must learn how to carry it out through the storm. The word bear in Greek means to move by bearing ;(carry) ,to be conveyed with a suggestion of force or speed; inwardly moved, compelled or prompted. It means we must learn to bear our own selves that aren’t aligned with God’s likeness, to be able to produce the likeness of God. It is a burden; however it’s the price we pay knowing who God is and what we are not, yet. He will make it perfect or mature within us, the longer we abide, endure and produce. This is the first part of understanding this level. God gives us grace and mercy to produce the likeness. If we however neglect to produce He then destroys us. I would say as Christians we are not here to just get saved, but become the image and likeness of God. Many Christians never develop this idea and it is sad.
So how does this help us, or launch us into the ability to produce more fruit?
Number one, we are a new creation in Christ, Right? We must believe in that. We are made in new wine skin, for new outpourings of His word and love. We must be able to accept and embrace Christ so that we can truly understand. Number two, this sets a foundation. He is the solid rock on which we stand. However we also can look at this as, new ground to plant and produce new things. Why? It is outlined in Ezekiel how salvation from the Messiah through the covenant of God will make us new, and have new hearts. Jesus spoke to us in a parable as we know as the reaper and sower. The Heart is the ground. These things being put together are teaching us more than how to abide and produce, but it rewashes us and our understanding on the Messiah and His word.
Our main purpose in abiding is to produce the likeness and image of God. How to do that is a second tip for being successful in how to abide in him. You first must know your goal, and how to do that. Well, looking into to the scriptures of John 15, Christ centers his main focus on acknowledging His own words, which is the gospel, and carrying them out (bearing) in love which is outlined in 1 Corinthians 13. How do we know how do that, John 15:7 says it plainly, “if you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what you will, and it shall be done for unto you.” Apply the word of God is by acknowledging it and if we don’t know it, chances are we are missing out on his divine instruction to cut out, and cleanse us from ourselves. I’ll keep returning to each level, because they complement each other. The two major things you need in how to carry out this goal of production is to have His Word, and Love Him. We must acknowledge His love for us, and we must also love His word, and Him. He says. “Continue in my love” it means literally to stay, or abide. Which of course we will dive deeper into when we complete each level. The word says, “if we love him we keep his commandments.” If we abide in John 3:16, “That He loved us so much that He gave himself for us.” We must believe that. If we don’t, then producing fruit will become an immature skill of your Christian walk. You will understand this a lot more in the next level because we’re going to dive way deep into specific words that gave me an entirely new refreshing picture of who we are and what He wants us to be!
Level 3 (Proficiency) – John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. We started with baring fruit, to more fruit, to now much fruit. Do you see the level increasing and how amazing His love and word is for us! So good.
John 15:8, “Herein is my father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” To recap on the 5 tips for success we must know our goal, how do to that and know what it’s for. This scripture proves my tip. Let me give you the three things that formed it. Number 1, it cleaves us to Christ. We came out of a kingdom in to a different glorious Kingdom! So this identifies who we are by becoming into one organism, or body. We are the Body of Christ. Number 2, it glorifies the Father in Heaven. This reminds me of Matthew 5; the city set on the hill that cannot be hid. If we are within Christ we are not meant to be hidden, or unseen. We are to be seen, by the light that is within us. Jesus Christ shines before all men, so that they may see your good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven. Number 3, it brings forth the will of God, Matthew 6:10 states that we pray for the will of God and His kingdom to come. These three biblical facts are to be a part of our desire. Without them we won’t produce more fruit. Unity, Humility and Divinity are what we are showing when we do all these.
This is place He begins to perfect us. When we start growing and producing fruit it’s in a single form. However God desires us to be a unity, not divided. We are crucified in Christ, one body. One operation is one kingdom. If we are against Christ we can’t produce as Christians. So unity must be grown in us, it must be cultivated through the process. We must carry a burden and be compelled by the force of love to manifest the fruit of Christ. Jesus says, “Continue in my love.” This allows us to abide in Him, in word, in truth with the burden until it brings forth a blossom! The beauty of holiness, maturity and perfection starts to look compelling and prompting. That’s because you already love God, maybe to a degree but it only proves that a little faith in Him can move mountains. Without the ability to humility the Lord cannot be glorified, neither can people see your good works. It’s all because of the glory of God that is given this command to produce the likeness of God. Christ paid the price. Not us. A point here that needs to be expressed here; In Matthew 20:28, Christ came to minister to us, serve us, guide us and equip us. There is a purpose for what abiding is for us. I’ll explain more in level 4
Now I want to prove by word that Proficiency has everything to do with this level. What does it mean to have proficiency? Proficiency is a degree of competence or skill; expertise. This means we have now a degree of perfection in areas of the Spirit of God. There is something in us that looks exactly like Christ. Isn’t that exciting? We have taken on such a burden through the storm that the spirit of man and The Spirit of God together manifests the likeness in the flesh of mankind, me and you. It is a degree of love for Christ and His word. That is proven by John 15, if we abide in Him and in his words verse 7. The Father in heaven is glorified by our proficiency in fruit bearing. The more that comes; the much more comes from the first level; Cleansing and Pruning. Christ in you, and you in Christ also shares unity and love for it, the body of Christ doesn’t operate in division. This is why in these times we have seen not God manifest like we have read about. It is because the Christian faith has become divided, apart from plurality; apart from communication and impartation of love and unity. Christ in us is the fruit of the Spirit. What hinders that is within the process of maturity. The longer we can abide, in word, and love we can transform from progress to proficiency. This actually as I see it, is an invitation from God through his grace and mercy to be the best we can be!
Level 4 (Perpetuity) –John 15:16, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
The four things that abiding in Christ does is this; cleanses us, establishes us, perfects us and makes providers for others. This is what it does for us. In order to know you goal, and how to do it, knowing what it’s for, we need insurance and confidence that there is something in it for us, and there is. It is the very fact that Christ came to serve to us, by ministry he presented service to our soul. Abiding in Christ serves us a lot more that we may understand. That is why the Spirit of God led us to this, to provide it for ourselves and others. This was all given so that within our perfection of fruit bearing, we become remaining trees of remaining fruit, forever; unchanging. How does that happen, well through the word its self, God show us His word and His promises.
What does it mean to live in perpetuity? a bond or other security with no fixed maturity date, a restriction making an estate inalienable perpetually or for a period beyond certain limits fixed by law.
A bond means- a thing used to tie something or to fasten things together. An agreement with legal force, join or be joined securely to something else, typically by means of an adhesive substance, heat, or pressure.
By the covenant of God, He made an agreement with legal force. How? His word became flesh and died in love for our own souls. To be joined, or joint heirs with Christ, we are securely bound to something else than ourselves. By the means of an adhesive substance, this is love. His word says if you love me you will keep my commandments. This is stated by definition by, heat or pressure. The Word says, tribulation and being tried like fire produces in us a glorious thing.
To exercise this in faith, you have to see this as a bond (by abiding in him) with power to do all things until the end. (Everlasting)
Restriction means- a limiting condition or measure, especially a legal one; the limitation or control of someone or something, or the state of being limited or restricted. Faith and love limit us by the legal conditions of Christ. If we abide in Him we will be compelled to say, continue in Him. This means, Christ will possess our own vessels and walk in us. We ourselves are at limitation; restriction.
Estate means- an extensive area of land in the country, usually with a large house, owned by one person, family, or organization. This land as we know it is Israel, the large house is the Temple of God, owned by one person; Jesus Christ, and family; the children of God, or organization; His Kingdom.
Inalienable means- it’s unable to be taken away from or given away by the possessor. This means that when we abide in Him all the inheritance of Christ is ours and cannot be taken from us, unless we forfeit it. This is an inheritance that is made by faith and love, unable to be taken away based on the bond set in a law that cannot be broken.
To remain means to last. When God talks about this for us, He means salvation for eternity. When It talks about our fruit, it means to endure the character or likeness of God. If we abide in Christ and His word we will endure. Its scriptural, however that is conditional based on your faith. Perpetuity also means in a sense that abide means. It reflects the word in Greek G3306 meno- to continue to be present, to be held, and kept continually; In reference to time, to continue to be, not to perish, to last and endure in reference to state or condition, to remain as one. (Unity) Not to become another or different.
Being humble to the divine keeps us in unity, as one body. If we are in one body, we are producing a percentage of fruit, based on faith and love in what we know of God’s word. This keeps us aiming at our goal, persistent on how to do it, devoted in what it’s for, and confident in what it does for us!
If you have followed this by the 5 tips for success on how to abide in me, you will know that seeing yourself in this purging process of proficiency and perpetuity is the major point in motivating us to move forward. See yourself in it, check your branches, know and identify you fruit. 2 Corinthians 13:5 says, “ Examine yourselves and prove your own self.” By our fruit we are known.
We just gave you the blue print of knowing your goal, how to carry it out, knowing what it is for, and what it does for us. As we close this we can give you 5 points on how to see your already doing this.
1. Walking in word and Love
2. Realizing your source, place and need.
3. Asking and receiving
4. Joy remains in you and its full
5. Willing to lay down your life for others.
