Waging Good Warfare

1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;”

This is a command given by Paul to Timothy. However today in this society I find that many people lack understanding about warfare. Some churches believe that all we do is just wait on God in times of devilish acts on our lives. No I disagree. God clearly wants us to wage war against the enemy. However the truth about warfare is that it first must be cleared in the Court of Heavens.

When we become regenerated we have what is called Salvation by faith given by grace through Christ Jesus. This is the entire summary of the Good news. Jesus paid for the debts of mankind, however it does not just start with you. It goes all the way back before your time and your ancestors. The blood crossed over every moment in history cancelling out every sin in the world from start to finish. As you already know that, this also may help you when I tie in the reason of warfare on your life as a Christian and The Courts of Heaven.

Here are some scripture facts you might already know that is effective to understand:

  1. Christ sets over all realms of existence and reigns over all Spiritual and physical things. (Colossians 1:15-17)
  2. We are seated high in the Spiritual Realm next to Jesus Christ over the second heavens which means we stand over the enemy and his angles. (Ephesians 2:6)
  3. We have been given a whole different level of access before what the Scriptures call the throne of grace, and have been told we can come boldly before that third heaven throne room to obtain mercy and grace to help whenever we need to. (Hebrews 4:16)
  4. We have been given a regenerated Spirit (1 Peter 1:3)
  5. With a spirit-filled relationship with Jesus our Lord we have a transformation describes in Ephesians 3:17 “Christ dwells within your hearts through faith that you, being rooted and grounded in love” (Romans 12:2)
  6. We are called into Sanctification seen by God pure and righteous Children of God (1 Thessalonians 4:3,7)

Knowing who you are in Christ reflects the truth from the Word of God and gives power to us who is holding the Holy Spirit within us.

Knowing protocols of the court of heaven

In order to establish the understanding of good warfare we must first understand where we get access to go to the battlefield.

With that in mind, let’s look at this well-known parable about prayer from Luke 18:1-8 (NKJV):

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.”

Three interesting things we learn from this.

  1. Jesus puts prayer into the context of a judicial system.
  2. Nowhere in this parable does this woman address her adversary.
Not that we don’t EVER address the enemy in spiritual warfare, but that was not mentioned here.
Our greatest success is totally caught up in getting a verdict from the Judge. Not us doing something to the adversary. A verdict from the judge will incapacitate the adversary.
  3. Will not God avenge His elect, speedily?

So let’s look at the principle parties in any courtroom: (including the courts of heaven)

  • Judge
  • mediators
  • witnesses

The Judge: God is the judge.

There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?… Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!” James 4:12; 5:9

The Judge is in place

I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened.” Daniel 7:9-10

The Mediators = attorneys (they argue for or against something)

The Mediator is a court function. Scripture tells us we have two mediators at work in our situation – the Accuser vs. the Intercessor. It further tells us that the Accuser brings accusations day and night. On the other hand we have Jesus our intercessor who is “the mediator of the new covenant.” So both accusation and intercession is going on before the Judge.

The Importance of Witnesses

2 Corinthians 13:1-3 tells us about the principle of two or three witnesses. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” (see also Matthew 18:16)

Satan is continuously accusing us before God, and Jesus is continuously interceding for us. We know these two voices in the heavens are looking for agreement (a witness) on earth. God is looking for agreement on earth. And so is Satan, the accuser of the brethren.

Jesus our Intercessor:
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”  Romans 8:33-35

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to makeintercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25

So we see Jesus, after He rose from the dead, sitting at the right hand of the Father, making continuous intercession for us. Satan, on the other hand, is accusing us before God day and night. (ref. Revelations 12:10) We see Jesus interceding and declaring blessing for us, while Satan is accusing and declaring cursing upon us.

The question then is, who will prevail? The answer depends on which we will agree with. Which voice in heaven will get a witness on earth? When we discover the weaknesses of others, which we all do sooner or later, the question we must ask ourselves is, will we cooperate with the Great Intercessor and become intercessors, or will we inadvertently side with the devil and become accusers of the brethren?

A Witness on Earth
The tragedy is that, way too often we are bearing witness to the accuser’s accusations against our brethren, rather than Christ’s intercession for us. When we do this we can actually find ourselves reinforcing the devil’s witness against our fellow saints by helping him do his job.

The will of God is being heralded at the throne of God, and the question is, “Will He get a witness on earth who agrees with Jesus’ intercession?” Will we agree with God and loose His will, or will we give witness to the accuser? It is certainly important then that we pray and join with Jesus the intercessor to give Him a witness on earth.

The final good news is that we are not alone in giving heaven a witness. Hebrews 12:22-24 “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,… to God the Judge of all, … to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

“Blood … that speaks better things than that of Abel.” The blood speaks! We see a voice is crying out for a verdict from heaven based on the blood of Abel.  But the blood of Christ speaks even better things. It speaks of forgiveness, atonement and the new covenant. In fact, without the blood we have no basis to come before the throne to begin with. But as we come into agreement with what His blood is saying about us, we realize the blood is what legally releases the provisions of the new covenant.

Much more could be written about coming before the throne of grace and navigating the courts of heaven. The point is, in light of these things, when we do we can be bold and confident, just like the importuning widow in Luke 18, that the Judge of all the earth will answer speedily.

“For we do not have a High Priest [mediator] who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16

“And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him … ? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.” Luke 18:7-8

Warfare after Court

We see in various times from the Bible there are commands to engage the enemy. Most of us if not all of us know that we are to pray various prayers (Ephesians 6:8) We also know the way we wage war on the enemy is one exposing the tactics of the enemy. This goes from society, to even the new age churches that proclaim Christian principles but do not uphold the truth nor bare the Holy Spirit. We know how anything is either of the enemy or of God. Simply we judge the fruits of the place, thing or person. In order to pray effectively we must know the Word concerning that thing. If we can see that it is not of God then we immediately need to renounce and cut every physical and spiritual ties from it. *This is majorly important. We might even need to repent for our families and friends so that when we ask to war against the spirits that control or operate out of the place, thing or person we are not associated at all with anyone. The accuser can still operate in your life and bind you from attacking if you have not be released from all past sins and connections.*

1 Cor. 14:15 talks about understanding in the spirit and with the Spirit. We need to understand where we stand in the Spirit and and against the spirits. This is why praying in the spirit and understanding in the spirit is important. If we are praying, and attempting to wage warfare on a person, or thing, even a place we need to know facts about the enemy, the spirits, the ties and or tactics it is using on the subject, item or area.

A person, can be used by the enemy to carry out the will of Satan just like We are to carry out the will of the Father. A thing, is more widely used to trap a subject or a area of people like Nations, cites, or certain states. Places, like government buildings, and or even monuments can be used to perform and act out rituals. They all coexist and function together in the spiritual realm, and psychological realm into the physical realm. This is why we need to know how to call down the Power of God by the using of our vessel and tongue. We know from earlier that our Vessel is important, to keep it holy and sanctified is actually a command. Now as far as our tongues, we need to understand what we say counts either for us or against us. Right words are forcible (Job 6:25)

Setting the Atmosphere

Here are some written scripture prayers that deal with bringing in the Spirit. Giving praise to God. The very first thing you wanna do is a statement of exaltation To Jesus Christ and your faith. This sets the area and atmosphere for battle. The spirits/demons know now that this has become a battleground. “So whatever we ask in prayer, believing , we will receive.” Matt 21:22. The word is near us Romans 10:8. Since we also have the word on our heart and out of the heart the mouth speaks, we now that the scripture that is living and sharper than any two edge sword can be used now as a offensive weapon to begin delivering the person, place, thing and or self.  Here are some mighty power source scriptures I use and still effectively call for;

  1.  (Isaiah 54:17) no weapon formed against me shall be able to prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgement I condemn.
  2. The weapons of my warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Cor 10:4)
  3. I overcome all because greater is He that is in me than He that is in the World (1 John 4:4)
  4. I am delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of Gods dear son (Col. 1:13)
  5. I do not have the spirit of Fear but of power love and sound mind. (2 Tim 1:7)

Now that you have set the atmosphere during the place of worship, and confessions. Its important to declare your place and establishment. * Remember the enemy is in the second heavens. Sin itself keeps us bound to a physical plane, and spiritually we can not operate, because Sin is death(Spiritually). To state your place against the enemy you are slowly gaining ground. I would state something like this:

“I take now my position against you now enemy, I stand in the heavens and I bind the principalities and powers that operate against (or place, thing, person)my life in the name of Jesus.” I pray for the flood gates of heaven to be opened over (Place, thing or person) my life, and that prince of the air is bound in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Here is where you are taking authority and setting the standard. Now is where you begin to Speak to God only.  The Prayers are not stated to the Demon or Devil its prayed into the Heavens. Up to the Throne of God when you begin to declare the Spirit to move.

  • In the name of Jesus Your throne Oh Lord is like a fiery Flame, and you are the Lord that answers by Fire. Lord release now God your Fire and burn up the works of the darkness.
  • Lord God Almighty Ever Lasting Father in the Name of Jesus Let you flame burn up the wicked spirits, Let your Glory O Lord come down, Let it rain over all the darkness, and corrupt plans.
  • Burn up O Lord and rebuke your enemies with flames of fire, Let all flesh see your fire released Oh God of Israel, Let the demons be exposed and cast out with your Fire. In The name of Jesus.

This of course are just a few of example. Its good, I have found to use the living scripture instead of just your own words. It does work with your own words and prayers. I have found it more Spiritually effective when I go up the enemy for myself or others with examples from the Word.

*RECAP* Identify what you are needing deliverance from. Then what are you waring against. For a person, is it a place, or item? Go to the Lord in Prayer and worship, begin to set the atmosphere. Then state what you are doing, and who you are. Begin to engage the enemy with facts. Then Before the Lord and the Enemy declare Gods spirit to move on your behalf ordering the spirit and enemy to be removed purged and cleansed from Person, Place, item.

Waging proper warfare allows no backlash and further harm done to you, and anything that you are praying over. Families and friends believe it or not can be harmed more if you are praying for them, thinking your battling when the enemy is only draining you and still effecting them. We first have to see we are in order to wage war, then we get confirmation to engage, then we do it ruthlessly. I hope that this has bless you, I know this study and all the knowledge I have been blessed with has. I hope that more warfare is happening because God is calling His army to engage the enemy and prevail over that ancient defeated serpent.
