Made in Likeness of God, to bare the IMAGE of GOD.
In Gen. 1:26 “God say, let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.” There is always talk or a “perspective clash” when it comes to the Likeness and Image of God. First I would like to say God is Spirit. The very likeness of God is spiritual, its unseen. In order to buy into all that the Word of God says one first has to accept there is a Spiritual Realm within the World we live in and beyond it. Most importantly Understand that God is and He will always be the Existing one. Creator, of every realm and creation on the face of this earth and beyond. Now the creation of Man is amazing because God breathed within dust forming Man and It says in Gen 2:7, 9 “that Man became a living soul… ” So here we have two already huge pieces of Man. Spirit and Soul. We are made completely in the image and likeness of God which is in Spirit. So we do have a spiritual Body within the physical realm and flesh which is also connected to the soul. 1 Corinthians 15:44 “It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body” & 1 Corinthians 15:49 “and as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.”
For Man, God gave us free will, and we see the exercise of Adams free will in the fall. The soul is still connected to God and the spirit because God feels, thinks, and makes actions. Which you understand the meaning of Soul in a deeper way when looking at the difference between spirit and soul. Learn more here Growing Spiritually Part 1; Separating the soul and spirit by The Spirit. As man was created according to God, he resembles God in many aspects. The carious aspects of man’s expression, such as His pleasure, anger, sorrow, joy preference, choice, etc. either being from His emotion, will, or disposition, He express’ God to a certain degree and are miniatures of all that is in God. 1 Thes. 5:23 “The God of Peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
May I also maybe pry open the mind a bit further by saying that In the Likeness of God there are Three parts. God being Father, the creator. Choice barrier. Then then son ‘God’ in the flesh as a body. Vessel of Mercy. Vessel made to contain the Spirit of God which Did. Jesus Christ. Of course Then the Holy Spirit which is of course the Spirit of God itself.
Now we can see that God made us in body, soul and spirit. “Soul” As in the feelings, mind, thoughts and actions of God. Body, baring the flesh as a vessel to hold the Spirit of God. This is the image of the Trinity I believe within our very form.
Why are we giving a spirit?
Why out of all creation, Man created not only in the likeness of God but also the image of God which is Spirit? Well as we discover in the scripture of the sacred text we see that He desires to dwell inside His creation. Romans 9:21-24 “Us being considered vessels of either one destruction and or vessels of mercy…”
He wants us to receive Him. Acknowledge and Express Him as Lord, Which is the Existing One. Spirit of All Creation. He gave us lungs so that we can breath which allows us to speak and sing. He gave us eyes to see to discover. He gave us a stomach that we may be able to eat, so that we can ingest food and digest food for enjoyment and growth. We likewise must see the very same way God has created His creation. Since we have a spirit within us we can receive Him and assimilate Him, making him our enjoyment and for growth spiritually speaking. By Receiving God we may be able to express Him. 2 Cor. 4:7 “but we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us”
Gods spirit is the treasure, In our Bodies that we may express His power from Him through us.
We are created to be His vessels!
He created us to be like Him and then He gave us a Spirit so that we can receive Him. He also then placed Himself in the form of a tree, being the tree of life in order that man might receive Him and obtain Him as Life. Thus The inner most part of Man was made to contact and receive God Himself. John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth.”
Once there is such a contact between God and Man, God enters into man to be is content and man becomes Gods Vessel to express Him outwardly. Thus Gods eternal intention is fulfilled in man. Thus Jesus Christ Being the Son of Man and Son of God.
