Grace and Mercy

We hear that God spared us through His son Jesus Christ and gives us “grace”.Which in fact is a freeing statement to those who believe but what does it mean to be graced and or to be given grace? What does it have to do with Mercy and are they the same? Is there a need for Grace and Mercy? This is what we will simply rediscover searching the scripture about favor, everlasting life, and a eternal plan.

So many have come across this scripture time and time again:

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Yes, here we see if we believe a demonstration also of Romans 8:32-“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” God did not hesitate on our behalf when it came to freeing us, He simply acted on Love to grant grace to us. This is the gift of Christ. However What is the meaning of Grace and why do you we need Grace?

The word ‘grace’ (CHEN in Hebrew, CHARIS in Greek), as it is used in the scriptures, literally means ‘favour’, to bend or stoop in kindness to another as a superior to an inferior. It has the idea of graciousness in manner or action. When used in reference to God, it is the benevolent action of Him stooping down to us in His kindness to reach us in our need, and convey upon us a benefit.

Again just by definition alone we can see God took action in expressing His “favor” to us. He lending us a hand that would benefit us, granting us not only regeneration, salvation and glorification but a very powerful relationship between us and Him. Now why on earth do I need grace in my life? Very simply put in Ephesians 2:5  “By grace you have been saved” Saved truthful from our earthly state, or also known as the flesh. You see, though we have life, there is a Spirit within us that was given by God, yet born or brought into a world that does not receive Gods Holy Spirit, thus needing regeneration. We were yes created with a spirit, soul and body {1 Thes. 5:23} God simply made us so that we would have a life within Him Who is a Spirit and only We can have life within His almighty Spirit having our spirits saved, thus Grace given and favor poured out of the hands and feet of Jesus for us to receive it.

Now the Process of receiving it, “the Gift of Christ” of course is receiving Christ as Gods Chosen son, the Anointed and Messiah. However the Transformation between regeneration and glorification is of course human cooperation so the Lord can fully work through the vessel he has created thus having full salvation and saturated with the life of God. Mentioned in Phil. 3:21-“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” This is very simply saying He will transform us, and allow our bodies to be stirred by his Spirit. His Command, His calling on our lives. Amen.

Now Between human cooperation, and glorification there is a unsettling of our flesh, that we wrestle with, until we come under again conviction of our own weakness and sin so that we receive Mercy.

Yet my understanding of us having weakness and falling victim to flesh is the moral reason  as to have complete dependence in God, that He would and can work fluently through us.

What is Mercy? Compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. Now once we accepted Christ into our lives, whom was able to give us the favoring and the gift of Life in the Spirit we became God’s. We were Bought within that Price which Christ paid for, to be able to pour out the Grace from God in our lives. So God has a rule and Authority in our lives, as it should. Thus another beautiful reason that God would forgive us, that He would use us to do great things even after our failures and trails.Amen.

The problem is, the fact for us is Galations 5:17-“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” So we must learn to Walk within the Spirit. As we know the characteristics of God living up to them is our pursuit and journey even when we learn that we are going to fall short of them. So Mercy is needed because though we know better, God again graced us with his compassion on us because we serve Him even at our Worst. Mercy is mentioned also a forgiveness to those who is in ones power. So God as we pursue Him forgives us and sees fit to grant us favor of mercy- in our lives.

Hebrews 4:16-“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Within one scripture we find were Grace and Mercy does not mean the same thing, yet it all points to one thing, that is of course our need of Him. We as Christians Need Him more and more as we follow His grace or His favor(forgiveness) as well as Followers who find they need mercy(Compassion) because of the lacking parts within our walk or relationship with God.

The one thing that is outstanding in this scripture is said that we should approach God’s throne of grace(kindness) with confidence. He simply states this that He gave His son up that we man have life, so to approach him in confidence because of the actions he took our behalf through Christ Jesus, appointed to reconcile us from the alienated state we were in because of the embodied flesh without Grace(Favor and gift) and unaware of His Great Mercy(compassion and forgiveness)

Colossians 1:20-“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”

Ephesians 1:10-11-“That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:”

Ephesians 2:4-5-“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
