When we look at this scripture, there is a distinction between Adam and the Second Adam which is Our Lord Jesus Christ, the life giving Spirit. The difference between them is one word, “soul”. As we grow and become formed By Gods Spirit and Word we able to understand the things of the Spirit with our spirit, and still able to live as a man, like the first Adam was. Having a Soul.
Now what exactly is a soul? Some may say that the soul was the spirit being the same thing, but the scriptures clearly show that thought to be false. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 “And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” So the spirit and soul are within the same vessel apart of the same body, but are separated by name. Here is also another scripture speaking on the soul and spirit being separated by the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12 : “For the word of God is living and operative and sharper thank any two edge sword, and piercing even to the dividing of the soul and spirit. So how do we distinguish the soul from the spirit” So the soul and the spirit are able and should be separated, I will give you a clear view as to why. To understand the Spirit of God, we must be able to have a spirit to connect with God. So what is a Soul? What is its purpose? Well very simply The English Word psychology comes from the Greek word psyche, translated as soul, and we know psychology means “the study of our soul”. So now we move to an deeper understanding as to why is there such a thing to study. The soul has three parts within it that which a human being as a vessel created by God has. One of them are our emotions, I m sure we all have been sadden, or angered before. But lets look at the scripture In Matthew 26:38 Jesus Himself spoke these words “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” So yes, Our soul is identified with our emotions based on what Jesus Himself spoke to His disciples. How about Deuteronomy 14:26 “And you shall spend that money for whatever your hearts desires” I think we can agree that our desires come from our mind, and thoughts associated with happiness, joy and even sorrow or anger. This is not spiritual thinking, this is in the psychological thinking, and it is a realm in itself I believe. Our Mind is of course is the second part of the Soul. Joshua 23: 14 “And you know in all of your hearts and all of yours souls that not one thing has failed of all the food things which the Lord you God spoke concerning you.” Proverbs 19:2 “And it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge. So it is safe now to say that Our soul is connected with our minds, that hold our ideas and thoughts. Yet what makes the ideas come forth, and thoughts becoming more than a idea but living and manifested? Well that is our Will, the third part of soul. Take take my word for it. Take Gods word Job 7:15 “So that my soul chooses strangling and death rather than my body” Poor Job he went through much as a faithful servant amen, He was truly under went much, soul and spirit division in His life. He walked in faith more than feeling, and considering to blame God for anything. He like scriptures say he chooses, this is the operation and activation of the Will, turning the thought and desires to a action, by making a choice. God given and yes very much apart of the soul, or the psychological process within that realm of our bodies. Our joy and or sorrow is from the emotional side of the soul, where the considerations or desires come from the mind part of the soul, and making a choice by doing something we are using the will part of our soul. This is more clearer now why our soul was in the balance before we were saved, and under the Spiritual power and Blood of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
